Economic Development and Outlook Discussions

Initiated first in Q1 of 2017 as Monthly Financial Sector Brainstorming Discussions we gathered momentum every month as we attracted senior Myanmar stakeholders (both local and global) to these conversations.

During the year 2018, assisted by a volunteer stakeholder lead Editorial Board we encompassed a broader context of economic engagement and renamed these Monthly Financial Sector Brainstorming Discussions to be called “Economic Development & Outlook Discussions“.

For the current calendar year 2019 we have decided to move to a Quarterly format so we could sharpen our relevance and attract a larger and more diverse set of stakeholders.

Our first Quarterly Economic Development & Outlook discussion took place on Tuesday, March 05th, 2019 in Yangon and subsequently our second discussion took place on Tuesday, June 4th in Nay Pyi Taw.

The dates for our next Quarterly Economic Development & Outlook discussions are as follows:

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019

Tuesday, December 10th, 2019

A brief Executive Summary – Q1 2019 (Tuesday, March 5th, 2019) is available.

A brief Executive Summary of the 2018 Monthly discussions is available.

: We maintain Chatham House rules to promote free flow of discussions and ideas.

In 2019 as we change from a monthly Discussion format to a Quarterly format we also recognize the need to bring together a wider section of stakeholders and as such we continue to adhere to our Chatham House rules format however with the disclaimer that we need to acknowledge our Distinguished Guests and Speakers by mention of their names and titles with their expressed permission in our invitations and in Executive Summaries.

The member / stakeholder lead Committees at the Myanmar Economic Forum is responsible for the shaping the subject matter / editorial agenda of our Quarterly Economic Development and Outlook Discussions along with all Economic engagement initiatives during the course of the year.
